Mbuna tankmates?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No pics. The tank works well. I have been keeping demasoni for 14 years and am stubborn enough to do what it takes no matter what.

Awesome, I want to try demasoni one of these days, they look amazing. which fish in your demasoni tank is the alpha?

There is no tank boss and they squabble among themselves more than with each other. The msobo are least dominant. I see I need to update my signature, there are msobo in the tank as well.

Demasoni are awesome. As long as you disperse aggression you can even keep them in a 29 gal

P.S. I know I will have to get a bigger tank soon for the red zebras and yellow labs

I have never had luck with demasoni in a 36" tank.

how many did you have? did you have other kinds of fish in the tank as well? I'm new to this hobby but my 4 demasoni are getting along fine with the other fish and i've been raising them for 4 months now. I didn't vent them, but im almost certain I have 2 females and 2 males for the demasoni

Demasoni get crazy mean when they reach full maturity. I have kept them in the past and would love to do so again but only in a tank dedicated to them. It can be managed but gets tough.

Mbuna in my area stores are relatively cheap, except Demasoni. $8 bucks a piece.
A colony of 10+ "Ouch!".

So in your experience, it doesn't seem to work out when kept in a community tank of mbunas? Do you think theres a chance they'll kill my red zebras and yellow labs when they fully mature?
