Silver arowana breathing with mouth open and closing

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Definetly not recommended but rule of thumb when keeping aro's, anything that can fit in its mouth is game so just keep it with fish too big for its mouth and keep the aro well fed and there are no issues. But granted as they get huge, many tankmates will only be temporary
Good to know. (even though chances are that I'll never get an arrow). Angels can be tricky fish. You never know how they'll react. A breeding pair can terrorize a 120 tank a push everybody to one little corner. Or they can put a much larger fish in their place...…….below the angels. However I have two males in a 36 bowfront and they are the most passive fish in the world (although I may move one of them). It depend on the fish. :)

Yeah I don't ever recommend aro's, truly monster fish they really need a big tank (like minimum 400 gallons or a tank at least 6 feet long) and knowledgeable care. As for angels, although they don't look it they are still cichlids. Semi-aggressive and intelligent enough where each individual fish is different in personality. They aren't as tough as other cichlids but can definetly hold their own if they have the size. I had 5, none of them paired up though and eventually I rehomed them as well to a friend who had a 240 community tank.

I'm shocked. Out of 5 you Never got a pair?!?!?! Were there any 'couples' at least? That's extremely rare not to get a pair out of 5. However that is a good thing for group dynamic. And a cichlid is always a cichlid. Just like discus.

The 5 were of varying sizes, and they always moved as one large group. Occasional in-fighting but nothing serious. I only kept them for 3 years though so I believe only 2 or 3 reached adult size.

That's doesn't seem right. They can take about a year to grow to maturity. They will show signs of compatiblitly with a partner before that though. Unless you got them at all different times. Which then it's a miracle that the older ones didn't demolish the smaller ones.

Here are some fully grown angels:

(my gold marble. Only good pic I can get of him)

I like the marbled or koi?, I got 3 before the other 2, the three I first got were the size of what you have in these pictures. The other two were the body size of a 50 cent coin. I don't have many pictures but here. I guess I didn't have the right conditions for them to breed, I didn't have live plants.

Thank you! He's my pride and joy of that tank. Gold marble. No blushing gene that koi's have. Then you had 3 adults. :) The adults might have been all one sex then. Although a younger one will pair with an adult and they will breed when they younger one matures. The younger ones look about 9 month old there.

What happened to the pectoral fins in the fist picture? The second pic looks like a high fin. But what srain is it?

If your asking about the pelvic fin in the first pic, I received it like that ( it had one very long pelvic fin and nothing in the other), p sure I had 3 high fins, 2 standard are they called like silver or striped sorry don’t remember been a bit since I had angels. I got all these from petsmart p sure.

Oof. Yes pelvic. My bad.

Im not the best with strains but the first one doesn't completely look like a silver. Ive never seen a high fin silver before. Wow. You usually pay extra for that fin.

Damn really, yeah I'm not the best with angels either but I guess I lucked out, got em for real dirt cheap from petsmart. Too bad I don't have them now. I kinda just have a 55 gal with a parrot fish and some random tetras and a 125 with a JD, 2 firemouths, a featherfin catfish, danios and tetras
