The other brand I liked when I was researching was Reef Savvy. I think that was even larger and greater turnover. They both had great build quality.

I have also drilled glass tanks with water and fish in them. As mentioned above just lower the water level to below where you want the hole. I always use a plywood template to hold the hole saw.
And technically you want a diamond coated hole saw... Not a diamond drill bit, but this is just splitting hairs.

Trust me once you get a sump, you will never look back.
I use to filter my tank with fx6s, but I later discovered there are so many limitations with canister filters.
So after some research, I got an overflow box( my tank is tempered), and build my own sump from a 55g. Life just got so much better
There are so many benefits that a sump provides such as
Hiding all of your equipment
Larger water volume, more stable water
Install drip/auto water change system more easily
Grow plant/ algae for nutrients export
Easier maintenance( depending on your set up, you could install roller mat to make your life even easier. I have placed an order for one, waiting to test it out. )
With a sump you have so much possibility, you are only limited with your imagination and probably your wallet...
Let's are honest, this hobby is not cheap, all the manufacturers out there are trying to have a piece of you.....
Tips: to avoid having complaints from your partner about how noisy your fish tanks are, make sure you do some research on the draining, dual or more are highly recommended.
So you can either apply the Herbie overflow or the bean animal overflow method to silence the drain, which is one of the common complaints with having a sump.
