Green Water I’m planted tank?!

Why didn’t you get a smaller light model? Or do you use it with another tank?
The light itself would be good to use, but you could try adjusting the height it is above the tank or smaller light hours.

Honestly my dad bought this light for his garage and I decided to try it on my tank lol. At first it was only on a couple hours a day so my tank was fine but after adding plants my lights were turned on more resulting in green water. Since I’m going to be setting up the 75 I will probably adjust the height. How tall would you recommend?

You could try 4 inches above, if that’s not enough then keep adjusting the height until you find balance.

Okay found the culprit for the green water!! Apparently I left the light on all night (12 hours). Does this mean my light is too bright and I should use a diff light or does elevating the light a few inches solve my problem? My light is this here are some specs I’m not very techy so idk what most of this means. Thanks again to all replies!!! Appreciate all of them!!!

I've caused a few algae breakouts by leaving the light on accidentally. I just do a water change and clean up the algae. Going forward the light is on for the normal photoperiod and algae doesn't come back.

But my light is only on for 7 or 8hrs. I might even dial it down to 6-6.5hrs a day and increase until you start to see algae. Your plants mass will also increase. 7/8hrs seems good for my tanks. The less plant mass, the less the demands.

here's my two pennies, a big component of algae growth is A. Too much light (leaving the light on for too long), and B. elevating the light some will decrease the intensity, so yes, id get the light off the tank, and decrease your light time to roughly 4 hours a day and see where you end up. Like someone else else you really should just cover the tank for 3 days and let all the algae die off, then do a massive water change, and resume lighting for 4 hours a day or so.

Just me, but id consider getting a different light, I understand the shop light may be a cheap route, but theres plenty of cheap aquarium lights available.

Hey! Thanks for the reply. So basically I took a risk and placed the led shop light which was on my 30 gallon on my 75 gallon and it works!! So far no algae besides a little green dust algae in the bottom of tank. Thanks again for you two pennies ?
