Hey guys!
My husband and I are very new to this. We currently have a 55 with Angel's, a huge pleco, and some Cory's. Then a smaller tank with some guppies.
Yesterday he was given another 55, empty. We are talking about doing a predator tank, 1, because they're really interesting, 2 to help with population control on the guppies. We'd also either like to get 1-2 bristlenose to put in there with, or we can put our big guy in and the bristles with the Angel's.

Anyway, the question here. What do you recommend? I saw somewhere that you could have up to 3 piranhas in a 55. Is there anything else that would be able to eat smaller guppies that we could have a few of?

Any other random tips to help us newbies out?

Thank you so much!

What kind of pleco do you have?
I'd say a salvin's cichlid. Colorful, aggressive and CAN be but in a planted tank.
Also, welcome to MFK.
And (I have to say it), :worthlesswithoutpic:lol (you get my hint lol)

Put your guppies in with the angels. They won't eat the adults but will control the population. Or add a Betta

It depends on the angel.

If you really want to see it. I haven't even brought it in to clean it yet ?

Also added pic of my other one so you could see my big boy.

The guppy tank is bare still. We just got them as a surprise along with a free empty tank. I don't plan on moving them or adding any other fish, I am going to add more to it though for them to hide, and get some marbles.

I'm really intrigued by pirhanas though. I just don't know much about any of the predators.

You could get a school of exodons, but I don’t know if they could live with pleco as I never kept them. Belly crawler pike cichlids could also work. I don’t know about piranhas, but maybe a single RBP could work. A pair of Jack Dempsey could work. Belonesox could work, probably at most of 5

Silver Dollars and Piranha are in the same family. There are some that look almost identical to RBP. The upside to SD you can keep them with other fish. Piranha will eat anything you put in the tank and possibly even each other.
