Stingray issues following water changes

Use more Prime. I dose at 5 mL per 10 gal. I'd recommend at least 3 mL per 10 gal.

Refill slowly.

I fill a spare tank and a 55 gal drum, dechlorinate, and heat to aquarium temperature. Then refill slowly.

I do have to deal with having the filter down for several hours but I think it solves more problems than it creates.

I always put the correct amount of prime per gallon/litres of water, plus an extra dose to be safe. For example: if 5mls treats 200ltrs and i took 400ltrs out, i would put 15ml of prime in.

I've done nothing different to what i have been doing for the past 10yrs and i had never lost a fish from doing a water change. She was 100% healthy prior to the water change.

Two months ago one of your rays died during a water change? And ever since, your last remaining ray also struggles through ever water change? Did this problem only start when you got your rays or was there a point in time when your rays were fine during your water changes?

Temp and PH usaully the same, although this water change tje PH was slighty down around 6.

PH seems low, you may have to increase your water change frequency or add coral chips. Best to do both

I've had this ray pair for 2+ yrs now and they never had any issues with water changes prior. I always do 40/50% water changes. Up until 2 months ago i did my routine water change and my female had died so suddnely. She was 100% healthy prior to the water change and the pair were showing signs that they were going to breed. Ever since this happend, eveytime i do a water change now im stressed that my male ray is going to die as he will go pale, disc will slightly curl and he will shed a slime coat. He never did this before, it only started 2 months ago when my female died and every water change since.

So about the same time. Seems cut and dry. You need an rodi unit and then you need to remineralise the water. I'd add another canister with crushed coral in line before the water hits the tank.

Aren't RO DI units and crushed coral mainly used for reef tanks? I run a sump with 3 chambers filled with k1 (chamber one), volcano rock and bagged carbon in the other chambers.

They purify the water. Breaking it down to it's very base. Nothing left in it that's why you need the crushed coral. Something is up with your water, you need to get whatever is in it out.
