Itll save you a lot of money, though. Do you already have a pond cannister filter and pump for a high enough turnover rate? or the giant jugs of water dechlorinator? Or the backup medication if your fish get sick? When my fish got a small case of ich it cost me $250 in bulk meds to rid my 550g aquarium of it. Have you already got a backup pond heater if the temperature dips? In reality even if you have an area for a pond its going to still cost you at least half a grand at a very low end of the scale with it more likely being at least $1,000 to start up. Plus, even with just 1 or 2 "monster" sized fish youll be paying around $25 a week in food. Whereas you could just order that fish that acts much like a monster fish and have almost no overhead costs. The absolute cheapest pond filters are still around $300 and will more than likely break in a year from weathering and need to be replaced just as one example.
Not if you watch craigslist. my 550g acrylic aquarium cost me $1000 but there were plenty of other big tanks over 8 ft for under $400. You just gatta stay on it and most of those will be already set up and ready to go. Also, keep in mind for a pond youre going to need to wait a month to cycle so id look more into the setup to get it running
Well what do you already have for the pond? Because if you go the pond route itll probably cost you more than $500 just to set up and youll be left with nothing for fish
Im not trying to kill your high, Ive just been where you are right now and I know the allure of monster fish is awesome. But you have to realize its a huge investment. I couldve bought a car with how much money Ive sunken into my tank. If youre already having trouble getting money for the setup I highly advise you scale down or youll find yourself stuck later when your fish keep dying and you cant afford to buy more
I have put 400 into my 36 gal. I can see how you'd spend much. much more on a pond. IMHO it'd be better for you to go with the 30gal. When you're older and have a job that guarantees you money every month then get the pond. A\t least then you'll know that you have money to keep it up and running.
I have the decor/water dechlorinator and the heater i wont need until my birthday or Christmas and the fish if i dont have the money for fish i can just cast net some invasive species from my local lake
