Fresh water fish

Arapaima gigas. It's considered one of the largest fresh water species in the world, known tank buster, and when frightened they fly out of the water like a torpedo on crack. It's not a very aggressive specie as far as I know but when frightened it sure is destructive.
So many choices. By size or by aggression?

I believe bullshaeks can live in freshwater their whole life.
The giant freshwater stingray comes to mind.
Mekong giant catfish comes to mind.
The stories of man eating catfish also come to mind.

Bullsharks can highly tolerate freshwater but they do require salt. If I'm remembering correctly they can live in pure freshwater for upto a couple months before needing to return to saltwater to replenish their salt reserves. As far as I know there is no truely fresh water shark specie, it would be amazing if there was but sadly not at this point in time, maybe someday tho.
Mix that with their temper and bite force and statistically bull sharks really are the meanest, baddest aquarium fish
Ehh I would quite say they have a mean tempered it's more like "I see it, I eat it". They honestly won't kill something without trying to eat it unlike say a great white where they do "test bites" to test if it's something they want to eat or not. Bull sharks will kill ppl to eat them while a great white tends to "usually" kill ppl by accident rather then pure raw predation like the bull shark is known for.
Yeah if shark week has thought for the past few years is that the bull shark is a hyper predator in a smaller size than other sharks
While Bull sharks are known to live in fresh water, to me this is not really fair to add to this opinionated list.
Since the premise is freshwater, and while Alligator gar that was mentioned by myself can live and is seen in saltwater around the gulf, would still apply because it’s normal range is a pure fresh water habitat.
That said this list is just for the sake of conversation, because there are many fish that get huge and are predatory, but not very aggressive. (Alligator gar)
Conversely there are fish that are very aggressive, but do not get very large.
We should also probably mention that the phrase “aquarium fish” can be interpreted a number of ways as well.
Any fish no matter how larger can be placed/kept in an aquarium if it’s large enough.
But not many people can keep most of these fish fully grown.

Bullshark with Aros and Plat rtc, they can be aquarium fish to a select few people like this keeper in Thailand
