Legit Brokopondo?

Demand went down and inventory dried up? No we get rando’s from farms in Asian and South America?

They're not from a river, they’re from a reservoir in Suriname called lake brokopondo, wes has been the only one I’ve got them from and had them turn out legit, I believe all cigars are from him as well. I’ve never had the opportunity to order them from rapps unfortunately ?

worse case can swap them out later... there are zero bass in my area... I can off load extras pretty easy...

Well, this is going to round out the bass group for sure....

I have a spare 150 for holding if wes or Jeff turns up with legit fish....

My Brokos came from Wes as a matter of fact all of the brokos I have purchased over the years have all come from Wes even the f1 brokos I had were from Wes and those turned out beautiful. I saw the “Suriname” import from predatory fins the brokos he has look off to me some even look to have additional vertical bars very washed out colors at that size brokos are very vibrant I have never seen brokos look like this. I would have to agree with tcav88 they look like farmies, possible hybrids.

With that said I would love to see a thread just on these fish that dr exum picked up so we can see the progression it would be neat to see how they develop especially with a good diet and good water quality. What size did you choose? Were you able to pick the exact ones you wanted?

it’s not just the washed out colors hence my comment about good food and good water quality, the markings look off and some have additional vertical bars etc obviously some of that is stress, these brokos being imported right now just look different. It’s not a bad thing they could be completely gorgeous fish that’s the reason I was suggesting a grow out thread it would be nice to see how they develop

I must say Rodrigo was very helpful and attentive, he showed me videos and let me pick. I stated I wanted something in the 8”-10” range he steered more towards his 12”ers ... he let me pick two and put them aside.

After getting up this morning, I knew that was too big, I want them to be the stars of the group, however the ones I’ll most likely end up with the 2 kels and 2 orinos are only 7”-8” . My og farmies are probably 9”-11”

I ordered two of the 7”-9” / the 12” were more costly too, he offered me a discount as I was buying two but even then I was looking at $300 more than what I paid...

I’ll start a thread tomorrow when they come, I’ve got a 150g wide/tall waiting for them to QT in for a few weeks I’d imagine....

I sent a photo for him to reference when picking out the 7”-9” er’s but I did not select them.

I've noticed that Predatory fins oftentimes misidentify their cichla species especially babies from 2-3" range.

Not my pick ups but I think I’m more excited or just as excited as you are to see how these guys develop.
