Peacock cichlid holding?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ouch! That sounds like it sucked. I did the same thing when I first got into the hobby. I bought a canister filter without knowing how filters worked just because it was big, so it must be better. When it got dirty I replaced ALL the media. I didn’t lose anything, but the new cycle must of stressed the hell out of them cuz I had an ich outbreak shortly after.
Yeah I was so used to having to wash out my filter on my 55 that when I got newer similar filters that I didn't think about how much they changed within 7 years of when I first started. Lol won't make the same mistake again that's for certain, technically can't anyways since that 7 year old filter died out the next year.

Things have changed a lot, back when I started I couldn’t imagine not using an under gravel filter, then when power heads came out, I thought we really reached the pinnacle lol.

Lol never used either myself. All I use are sponge filters and hang on the back filters. Granted once I get into some bigger tanks I plan on using canister filters but that probably won't be for a while yet. Wonder how ppl felt when they made the very first fish tank.

Haha , probably just a small bowl or bucket with a bubbler.
I didn’t even know about the cycle until I got into saltwater in 93. The lfs would sell me a tank, supplies and fish and say as long as I have it set up in 40 minutes, the fish were fine in the bag. I’m renting my house , but whenever I buy again, I’m planning on some kind of huge tank
