As always, I'm having to deal with my ridiculously picky O, who goes through 'food phases'. Starving only has moderate success. Right now I'm supplementing mealworms.

Which insects have the most rounded nutritional value? I'm still trying to find a happy medium he consistently will eat. I think Brick is scoffing pellets when I'm not looking (now he doesn't want you to see him eat). Still looks like a slab with fins.

He doesn't like crickets at all. He seemed to love blackworm cubes with spirulina (the tubifex not so much). I guess the taste/texture is different.

Some gut load the insects prior to feeding. I know Cricket for sure. I know you don't want to do Crickets.

Me either, don't know about nutrition, but I feed super worms to my geckos. And crickets, but you said he doesn't go for them. I do gut load my crickets though. I also feed butter worms on occasion, but they are high in fats, I wouldn't feed those.

I think the best approach would be as much variety as possible. Plus I think he'd go for worms over crickets. Which crickets have you tried? The brown ones? The black ones have too hard of a shell. That could be an issue.

Side note, I once fed a small cricket to my serpea tetras.....they tore that thing apart like a pack of piranha. He must be a very picky boi!!!

I know Repashy grub pie formula uses black soldier fly larvae and also Bug bites pellet food.

I’d say any insect that is gut loaded would be good. Mealworms are pretty easy to load

I used to feed my bichirs freshly shed mealworms, the white ones. This was done to reduce the risk of chitin blockage. They would also consume baby cockroaches with gusto.
