Convict and tiger barb tank mates?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I thought the Tiger Barbs would control the population but couldn't find anything about Tiger Barbs eating fry so my apologies.
I feel like that might be the case. That might have to be the route and perhaps some live bearers

Most fish will prey upon fry. Tiger barns are aggressive enough that they will munch most. Your LFS might take fry.

I would be very cautious adding kribensis or salvini to this tank. If your convict is a small juvenile or a female it may accept more cichlids, but if it is a large male, I would bet it would kill any small non-aggressive cichlids like the kribs that you add. And a salvini is a larger, even more aggressive fish, two cichlids in a tank is usually a recipe for trouble, and especially if the convict is established, I can pretty much guarantee they would fight.
If you want another cichlid, another convict for the pair may be your best bet. I would recommend a hide-hole that only the female can get into (flower pot with a female-sized hole) if possible to allow her to get away from the male. I bet the tiger barbs will eat some fry if they can catch it, and you could add a couple other fry-eating smaller fish if you were worries about the fry.

I have 1 convict/ 8 tiger barbs/ and 1 bristle nose anything Else i could add or should I leave it as it is in a 55
if your looking for any other live bearer suggestions id heavily recommend the yucatan molly they can get up to about 5 inches and the males are extremely impressive.
