Baby JD Breeding???????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Congrats! Beautiful fish :) I have no tanks for JD though. I personally find that crazy they spawned so young.

I guess with deformities, look at fins (missing or stubby), misshappen body shapes, mouth and gills.

I shipped some fish in from Asia (bc I had no other choices for what I wanted) and all the fish were the wrong phenotype and half had short gill plates. I was really disappointed because I planned them for my breeding project. If these were my own, the ones with deformities would be culled, not shipped out. It was pretty darn obvious even at their tiny sizes.

Another time I was shipped 2 EB rams. One had a huge Lymph looking cyst on its forehead, the other was missing pelvic fins completely. It's cheek was also bulging out with cyst. How do you not notice that? I have a vid of them if you are interested.

It's more bc I don't want these deformities to be passed on. You can't keep a fish from breeding.

Just so you have some idea what to look for.

angelcrze angelcrze thanks great info Im sorry you had bad experiences with that but I think some of those places are more about quantity then quality
I will definitely cull them I find it sad but necessary thanks for the advice!!!

Thanks and I agree, quantity over quality for most of these places. I only shipped fish in twice in my life. I think they keep the deformed for shipping out. The EB rams were from Angelfins in Guelph. Yes, very sad, but necessary bc you don't want these deformities to be passed on. Like protecting the fish as a whole. Many of these fish are too closely related (compared to what happens in the wild) and we know what happens.

Ok I will DM them to you

angelcrze angelcrze Angelfins is one of my local fish stores have never been because I was under the impression that they where more of a nano/dwarf cichlids place not sure but not sure I will be going any time soon.

Exactly why I told you. I know some ppl have success (but those that are closer to the store). I'm sure it would be better to be able to pick the fish out in person, but just a heads up. It's too bad bc there's not many places that will ship fish in Canada. They are more a nano fish store, just SA dwarf cichlids and angelfish. (But I LOVE them!)
