ok so I have a 20 gallon tank with a Emperor 100 I think its the one that take 4 of the biggest cartridges i only run 2. It is for a 75 gallon tank. I also have a Fully cycled fx6 on my big tank I can add to if needed. But how many 2 to 3 inch cichlids can I keep in QT for 2 to 3 weeks?, in a 20 gallon tank. I see the fish stores with 30-50 in a 40 gallon Breeder. I want to do 18 -20 I will do daily water changes of 25% should I add the FX6 or just some more bio media?

That's a lot of fish, but it will at least help with aggression problems. I think you can do it with the filter that's on it. Maybe clean one of the filter sponges from your FX6 in the 20 to jump start the filter.

Feed lightly, like once every day or two, and be ready to make water changes pretty frequently. Crowding the fish like this could lead to more problems than just dumping them into your big tank.

I, personally, have never been a fan of quarantining new fish, but I've learned to add ich medicine when I put in fish from a favorite lfs.

I had an ick outbreak in the big tank( I bought over 70 fish in 2 weeks) and just my electric bill keeping the tank at 88 to treat with salt just to have to use ick x to get rid of it anyway will make me QT every time now I lost about 10 fish. I dont like to lose one not because something I did. I have 18 in there now because I just had to have some fish 2 big geo's and the rest from 1.5 to 3 inch. Looking on Craigslist for a 29 gallon to set up to. Wish petco was having there 1 per gallon sale. Going to put the fx6 on in a few days. Need the mp blocks in the sump to come up to speed. Just put a new sump in. That why I have the fx6 Thanks for your input I will test it more now

Quarantine is a good practice but I think 18-20 2-3 inch fish may be pushing it in a 20 gallon. Aggression will probably not be a problem, since they will be packed in there, the issue will be keeping water from becoming ammonia soup. I think daily water changes may be your best bet.

And one is an albino Oscar lol but he is small under 2 inchs.they are poop machines lol. I have one 12 inch tiger in a 60 gallon with a 13 inch pleco with an FX6 on it and can't keep the nitrates down under 50 ppm its been like that forever.

Well just as an update it is possible but I am having to do two water changes a day Ammonia is not the problem that is at zero. It is the nitrates that are coming up fast. I all so went out and got a 40 gallon Breeder tank and I have 28 fish in there and they are all going good for now. So I have 18 in a 20 gallon with an Emperor 350 filter and a 40 gallon with an FX6 on it and 28 fish. Just went and got some plants to try and help.

Is it possible to A medicate the QT tank and shorten the QT time?

I am far from a pro but rushing the QT stage is really a gamble for your new and existing stock. I've seen some folks run a 3 month QT stage just to be safe. I'm pulling on average 6 to 8 weeks so I don't risk my current stock.

Better safe than sorry.

O dam yea that any going to be feasible. Maybe 2 weeks top unless I see something. I am doing 2 water changes a day now, I hope the plants i got will help with the nitrates. I'm also only feeding twice a day not 4 time like the DT
