Was checking out Ebay on some tank prices. I thought Craigslist was looney but some of these sellers are on crack. Check out these 'deals.' All of these are used:
A 15 gallon, $200 plus $175 shipping with heater and cover
$100 for a 20 long plus $34 shipping (tank only)
$50 for a 20 long (the air in it is free) tank only. A steal!
$2000 for a 135 with ultraclear glass, stand and pump (doesn't say what the pump is)
$900 for a 50 with ultraclear glass, stand and pump (doesn't say what the pump is)
$80 for a 10 gallon 'reptile' tank
$200 for a scratched up 20 long TruVu acrylic tank
:y220d:

Also saw the usual assorted "take my fish, faded fake plants and crusty filtration, not to mention my half broken stand with the loose doors and chipped finish."

I don't doubt there are suckers out there desperate for a tank, but even a dope would question these prices. Seemed to be worse for tanks under 40 gallons!

Seems to have settled down some from a while back, but I used to see idiotic prices for fish also, with bogus descriptions apparently hoping to snag someone who doesn't know anything. Like 'rare Burundi frontosa' for $600 each.

Lol ya tank prices on eBay are a joke, sometimes there’s good deals on fish tho and I get a lot of supplies dirt cheap on ebay

I've seen a 125g used go for $7,500 before. Not starfire, not acrylic. Regular used 125g on a petsmart stand. Honestly even on craigslist it blows my mind. People want $200 for their 10g setup. Or $2,000 for a used 75g acrylic set up. Your car depreciates, your house can depreciate, your furniture depreciates, why do people think they get every cent they throw into a tank back when they sell it?

Miniature Carp (aka goldfish)
Galaxy GTs
Crystal Dempseys

Roll out the cash!

It is wild how you get great deals for fish and supplies but not tank setups. Plus they're almost all local pickup only! I've got tempered starfire in the 225 so I know the 50 and 135 ebay had were rip offs...I could compare the prices new vs used vs size.

Yeah, I especially like the DIY ad copy in those ads:

"Reptile tank" - translates to "it leaks"

"Rare!" - translates to "I think I overpaid for this and want to recoup all my money..."

"Super-rare!" - i.e. "I know I overpaid for this and want to recoup all my money..."

Friend and I used to laugh at people selling on a local auction site, guppies or goldfish they caught "In the stream behind my house." Called them Stream Guppies. Almost every time they were gambusia or koi. Both of which are unwanted organisms, possession or distribution punishable by something like 6 months jail and up to $100K fine.

Just the other day I saw a 6" Common Parrot cichlid (not true parrot cichlid) for sale for $90. Owner went on to say how you could absolutely never find the fish anywhere around here and at that size it was unheard of. I walked across the st to my local petsmart and took a pic of a tank full of them at $15 ea. Sent it to him but strangely never got a reply aha
