Would’ve been nice, said they couldn’t give it away for free
Lol must suck. I've gotten fish for free a few times from pet stores. Always do to the fish either being beaten up, deformed, or it had a previous injury that would affect it's day to day life. Most fish lived just fine but had the one that I got that was just too far gone. It was a tinfoil barb (8in) that had it's backbone exposed due to a (1ft) flowerhorn being kept with it in a 10g tank. I got 3 tinfoils and the 1 for free because of his injuries. He didn't make it thru the night but atleast he had a peaceful place to rest in the end.

Just little bit recovery steps, such as salinity in water to prevent fungus and parasites, fresh water, some veggies food, some API stress coat (which has aloe vera), little bit Prime dechlorinator, and he will be back soon. All the best for recovery.

P.S. my FH grew from 2 inches to beast mainly on green peas, strawberries, beans etc veggies and fruit to keep him out of constipation.. You can see him in my profile... Other pallets like Hikari Gold, freeze dried shrimp, bw, krills (all freeze dried), he never had bloated stomach or anything like that... Hope this helps..
Though some flowerhorn are different most have very poor digestion so imo stick too just a high quality pellet like northfin or NLS also hikari bio-gold plus and blood parrot +. Again, unless the wounds are infected or the fish has any other illness just keep it simple and just provide good water quality above all. The above is not bad advice but I don’t necessarily agree with it.

I agree, but some salt is always useful to keep away bad guys ;-). I do it since 8 years, one handful in 30+ gallons and doing job very well. Didn't had any issues and disease so far. May be that's just fresh water and not the salt, and that's just my belief. Well, additionally I use prime for best water quality.. testing water frequently so I know I am doing it right.

That's just my advice, if anyone does not agree with me, I am fine with it.. thanks..

Moreover, veggies are always good for fish to keep stomach soft and working.. that too my personal experience and I don't advise to use veggies if anyone don't believe!! Simple!!!!

All good man, too each their own. Though the only veggies I feed are of aquatic plant matters which is present in NLS algae max. Ime flowerhorn don’t digest terrestrial plants very well. Only one I have fed to my fish is peas.

Yes All good my friend!. Different cases different story, every tank and their habitats are different...

Funny story !! So I didn't know about other veggies other than just peas whether FH likes or not, so one day my daughter, she was just 4 years at that time, eating ripe mango, in pieces, threw a bite and I wasn't sure whether my FH will eat, and rushed to the tank to net a mango piece, but to my surprise FH gobbled it and waging tail to eat more.. I then waited for few seconds and dropped one more and gobble!! Chep chep chep and gone!! Hahahhaa..

Then, few minutes, pooped good, no issues. Next day watermelon (bit messy!), Almost any fruits...

Some like some doesn't, especially, those little cute dirty fella, my BP, he is very very choosy.. he is just 1.5 inches but he doesn't touch any veggies, no peas too.. even crushed in pieces... Only pallets, Bw, shrimp.. (frozen dried)

Ik with my 2 girls I got they both eat mulberries and black razzberries. Lol kind of surprised me to see a cichlid enjoy fruit so much. My other fish don't seem to like em so much but the 2 flowerhorns love em. Granted they maybe get only 1-2 at most every week or so so definitely not a regular part of their diet.

FH seems more as an humane kind of species, rather being a fish LOL! Sometimes I feel They can understand us, during tank maintenance, water changes etc. I had to net him sometime to make sure that he doesn't hurt while cleaning, and putting him in bucket for fe minutes for detail cleaning, well, I had never had to chase him, rather I felt he sits in the net very easily, when I move net out of water, he didn't friggin at all! That surprised me all the time, and when I do put him in bucket and vice versa, he easily ingress/egress!! Moreover, he used to freak out during couple of times while tank cleaning, but he got adjusted within few days only. When I pet and massage on head, he liked a lot..

So yes the point is, they eat whatever is given to them, but I too avoid giving fruits more often, green peas yes often..

Really don't think feeding fruits to fish is a good idea, fish don't do well on carbs, I think sugar would worse. Better to stick with algaemax if you want some veggies to go in his diet.

About salt, I think it does help out a stressed fish for sure and aids recovery. I also think it shouldn't be used routinely. Instead of stresscoat look at stressguard, much better product, same company that makes prime makes it. I recently switched to safe from prime, same product just in powder form but saves me space, time and money.
