Hello my name is Dylan and I’m looking for help with a Río tapajos biotope. Im curious if anyone can shed some light on maybe substrate color, plant life, fish species mostly corys and tetras, type of water current, fast, slow. I’ve kept tanks for a little over a decade, and am trying to make this project as close as possible to what you’d see in nature. Any help would be much appreciated.

Welcome aboard Dylan!

What is your PH coming from the tap? Also what size aquarium are going to use for the Biotope?

You could still do the Biotope but water changes will be crucial to keep Nitrate level low.
Another option would be to setup a r/o system which would remove minerals that make the water hard. Here is one link until other members chime in.https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/rio-tapajos-biotope.586416/

Type in Rio Tapajos Biotope in the search bar and there you find more linkshttps://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/rio-tapajos-biotope.518207/

I know about an RO system only problem is my land lords won’t allow me to Install one.

Oh ok just do the proper water changes needed to keep Nitrate level low also Tannins will help with the GH. I use leaf litter in a couple of my aquariums with fish that normally come from soft water in the wild. My PH is at the same range as you're PH and I have a group of Wild Browntail Pencilfish that's been doing well almost 3 yrs now and believe that's due to the leaf litter combined with 50% weekly wc's.

I keep a group of 3 wild Crenicichla regani I absolutely love them. I just want to try and show case them in as natural looking habitat as possible.

Oh that's great have you thought about Apistogramma or another dwarf species from that region. A nice group of Corydora would look nice.

I haven’t thought of doing apistogramma but I do have a school of lemon tetras and about 6 bandit corydoras which don’t fit the biotope. I just haven’t been able to find corydoras ornatus
