We are nearing time to move the permanent residents into the new 400g tank, which has me thinking about how to finish out the stocking. Would love your expert opinions on what would go best!?

Permanent residents and current sizes:
- Silver Arowana ~ 20-22”
- Peacock Bass ~ 10-12”
- Clown Knifefish ~ 10-12”
- Ornate Bichir ~ 10”
- Senegal Bichir ~ 8-9”

Here are some of the new tank mates being considered but am open to other ideas.

- Another PB (Kelberi, Orino most likely)
- Datnoid
- Pike (Zebrina or Lenticulata most likely)
- Flagtail Prochilodus (hard time finding big enough)
- Another Bichir (Endichleri or Delhezi most likely)
- Other???

Ready set go ?

I would not put a senegal or delhezi with that stock and I would watch out if you add any plecos.

The Senegal is already in as part of the 400 cycle so hoping no issue when the others move in. What would you see as the concern?

I’m not a giant Pleco person off the bat though I know there are some pretty ones. What would be your concern there?

Mainly I worry about the peacock bass eating it. Also I’ve read that endli’s are known somewhat for eating other bichirs.

Yep endlies and other lower jaws can and may eat the upper jaw bichirs. Especially since senegals will stay the smallest out of all those fish listed.

Other than the senegal being eaten, plecos have occasionally been documented sucking on the slime coats of bichirs and killing them.

Yeah, the Senegal was a recent add and technically part of the “cycle stock” since it was good size and cheap at my LFS. I’ll have to watch him with the bass but the new tank should have plenty of areas to hide. We’ll see on the endi long term, maybe get another Ornate since they’re our favorites.

Would like to get some added color, so thinking Zebrina, another PB and a Flagtail to go along with the existing stuff

Flagtails are another possible slime coat eater. Best not to take that risk.

Hadn’t even thought of slime coat issues to be honest only “who will eat who” ?

Thoughts on a Florida Spotted Gar? With a Zebrina and another PB?

Obviously with the Bichirs, Aro, Clown and other Pb...
