Parrot x Texas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As long as they are 4in+ you should be able to vent the to check the genders. I'd vent the parrot first to make certain ya get a female, males tend to be infertile. Once ya get a female parrot the next step would be making certain ya have a male GT.

Yeah the loach incident sucked. Spent $40 on the pair of cats just to have em dead within 1 day, wouldn't have been so bad if they weren't their only mated pair that they had. And just to think tho that that loach was only ⅓rd the cats size at the time.
Thanks for the advice. The Texas I got today is maybe 3”. Do fish store typically let you vent them at purchase? Have never asked to do that.

If it's a mom and pop shop sometimes but not always. Most big chain stores won't. But then again most places are more concerned with the sale rather then what they are selling. You could always try explaining what your trying to do and they might be a bit more willing to let ya vent em.

With the Texas you'll have to atleast grow it out for another inch before ya can get an accurate venting on it. Got any pics of it btw?

Ahh ok so not a Texas. That there is a very close cousin known as a Carpinitus. They tend to look allot better then a Texas imo since they get the bigger/bluer pearls. They are often sold as the same kind of fish, or as "Electric Blue Texas", just because of how closely related to eachother they are.

The only potential problems I see with this breeding project in this tank would be the 2 convicts. They tend to be some of the meanest fish once they pair up and start breeding even with how small they are.

Here's a pic of what ya could expect your lil guy to turn out like. Far better looking then a green Texas imo.

Well then...that’s very good to know about the “Texas”...thank you! Seems these can still create a Red Texas, right? Or would there be a more appropriate name?

Both convicts are females, but could try to spawn with the other fish (platinum just spawned with the sev, but they were duds).

If things get too heated in the tank, I’m prepared to return anyone to my LFS. They’re good with taking donations.

Yeah it would still be called a Red Texas. They are often used for that purpose along with high quality Thai GT's. Also don't be surprised if the convicts decide to breed with eachother, just because they are both females and won't produce anything doesn't mean that the parental instincts won't still kick in. Lol it's not too uncommon to have fish being homosexual with each other as long as there is no male of the same or closely related specie. I've personally experienced this with a pair of male Tinfoil Barbs.
