Flowerhorn not eating, out of ideas

Try soaking in frozen brine shrimp if possible. They say the brine doesn't allow introduction of parasites. I had lots of issues with the bloodworm juice. It would get him to eat but always had intestinal issues sometime after.
Actually I’ve already tried soaking it in some frozen brine shrimp when I was thawing some, no joy. Hopefully he will grow out of this, it’s crazy that he only eats one type of pellet.

Fast your fish if it's picky.
Well this is the start of day 3 and he refused the single pellet I put in the tank for him. He swam up to it like he wanted it, but as soon as he saw it he just turned away. I have to get this guy on a variety of pellets and not just one single type.

So far the only thing he will eat is the SPV Fisher WTT pellets that I got from the breeder and some freeze dried meal worms & krill.

He has refused Excalibur and several types of Hikari pellets for whatever reason. I have tried soaking them in both garlic and bloodworm juice but still refuses them. I was thinking of trying to soak some in some tuna water juice, has anyone tried that before??

Just know that fasting can take anywhere between 3days-3weeks. Fish can go upto a month without eating and still be just fine, just have some patience with it and he will eventually try some new foods once he is hungry enough.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. This is my first Flowerhorn and I’ve done a ton of research on them, just want everything to be perfect but most of all I don’t want to do anything to make him sick.

I know having him on a varied diet is very important that why I need him to start accepting other top quality pellets. I’m wondering once he does, I should probably wait a long time before I offer him any freeze dried meal worms, etc?

Yeah once ya get him eating the other brands I would recommend waiting another week or 2 before giving him treats again. Also I would recommend either frozen krill or live super worms as they aren't so hard to digest as anything that's freeze dried. Freeze dried foods tend to reduce the nutritional value of what ever it is. While with just freezing foods doesn't reduce it nearly as much. With live food there is no nutritional lose but you do run the risk of getting what ever it's fed to, sick. Granted if they are raised at home it's far less likely to happen, FYI super worms are very easy to raise, breed and feed. There's lots of info out there on YouTube on how to do it. Also super worms are just a larger varient of meal worms.

Ok sounds good, I have fed him frozen krill and he did eat those. Just go to get him on these pellets and we will be good to go.

I guess I worry that fasting him for awhile might cause him to get sick, but I guess that’s just dumb thinking.

Thanks again for the advice

Yeah it's shouldn't cause him to get sick but always best to keep an eye out just in case. Just because something shouldn't happen doesn't mean it won't. But yeah fasting will honestly be tougher on you then it will be for the fish, lol it's so easy to cave in when ya see that swimming lil B****** acting all cute like a dog just waiting for some food.

Just tried one of the Excalibur pellets soaked in tuna water, not interested in that either. One way or another this fish will Lear to eat a variety of pellets.

Variety doesn't mean different type of pellets but rather different ingredients. Any quality pellets from northfin or nls has enough variety of ingredients, I use northfin krill pro, northfin jumbo and nls algaemax
