Doing research for a dream tank that one day I want to build out, specs in my head will be a 5-5-2 foot tank for a silver arowana plus a couple other fish to add come colours, oscars or azul peacocks, hopefully a ray or two, can't decide on anything along the lines of a pleco to add to the list though, something that is going to grow with the other fish but ideally not just brown in colouration, from reading online a few people just tend to stick with a common pleco, anyone got any other suggestions?

Just a point to note, this is all theory and will stay that way for a while yet, just planning out logistics while I'm stuck indoors.

Thanks all :)

You can do royal plecos they are nice looking species and pretty cheap only downside is that they take quite a while too reach their full grown size.

They look nice, could be a solid option, will just need to find one that is already a few inches long so that nothing in the tank grows too fast and sees it as a snack one day, the rays will be a later addition anyway I think as I'd rather something in there to help keep any hard scape clean over something that just looks really cool, once they've grown out a bit I'll look into it

I have a sailfin pleco and a gold spot pleco that keep algae of the glass and anubias in my 6x2x2, I think these are a bit better looking than a common.

No plecos if you want to have a ray.
I’ve seen a lot of people keeping them together, from what I’ve found it’s kind of luck of the draw with personalities? Make sure the pleco is large enough not to get eaten ? I know the pleco can be an issue for the rays coat but from my reading it seems some are fine and some aren’t?

please don’t read that as me saying I know better, just trying to expand my knowledge is all

Gold spot also is going on the option list, thank you! In a tank this size it seems I’d be ok to have a couple of them? There might be a little bit of chasing but it should be large enough to let them both have a territory each, I’m planning on having some hardscape in there so a couple caves will definitely be added

Ok I did more research today, peacock bass are off the list, reading up on it and it seems like too much of a risk, while I do want to add some vibrant colours to this tanI, first and foremost is the fish’s health so while I accept there will be a little bit of chasing and sorting territories I don’t want something in there that will be constantly trying to eat the other fish, and the main thing with this tank is I really want the aro, so maybe a couple different oscars and green terrors and I’ll just accept blue isn’t a colour that will be in the tank, I’ll just get a little tank near by and have some cardinal terras or something lol
