Is an AC110 enough for a 110g for 6 to 8 discus to grow out? Expecting the fish to be about 3in. Actual flow rates seem to be around 300gph for this filter based on member testing.

Will add a canister(FX4) / sump(30ish gal, converted 55gal) down the road but I have a AC110 laying around and would be nice to start the grow out sooner than later.

If you're going to do frequent water change for the grow outs. Which u should for optimum growth for discus. The ac110 is more than enough for now.

What would you define as frequent? I am hoping to get away from the daily large volumes I am doing with my Angel breeding, 3 80% a day is getting tiresome.

depends how heavy u feed and what u feed. 3 80% a day is a lot. Once a day or every other day in my opinion is good enough.

anything more than once a day might be counterproductive in that the fish may be stressed out *all* the time.. i can't see any scenario (granted i haven't seen every scenario) were you *need* more than 80% wc each day...

Sorry, 3 seperate tanks, 80% each.

We had a Figure 8 puffer in an uncycled tank (he arrived very very early), was getting a 50% in the AM and a 90% in the PM for the cycle period bout 4 weeks. He did quite well, and luckily was still fresh water at that point.

That would certainly keep the ammonia down

I would use my own media and get away from buying those cartridges. Makes the filter much more beneficial.
