All male 72” long tank choices

Any updates? How is your tank build going?
No luck yet, called couple of aquarium services and told them what I needed and never called me back, guessing not much $$ for them to bother with the effort. After looking everywhere, I think I have settle on a 300 that’s 96x24x30. Seems like that the only choice that can fit through the door.

Working on finding one within my price range. Found couple but are glass and the wife don’t want me to get glass, so looking at Acrylic. Right now also busy with few other tanks for my Pleco, Clown Loaches and Hillstream, Whiptail catfish. Found a sudden likening to them. Just got a Royal Pleco as we speak.

Hi DJ
Just so I understand correctly, so regardless if I have a 125, 150, 180, 240 or 300. As long as the length is 72” your recommendation is that same 18 individuals sized fish for all these tanks and if I want to get say 25 fish with some =>> 6 inch then I need a 96” or longer length of tank. So no Fosso, Bucco, Malawi Gar etc.. in any 72” tank?

Thanks
To me 25 of the smaller types isn’t enough in a 72” tank, for the larger types it’s a good number but for the <6” types like Aulonocara I would do closer to 40. The higher number keeps the aggression down and prevents one from being singled out. When I had my 4’ 75 gal Aulonocara and small Hap tank, I had 32 fish and it worked perfectly. No fish with tattered fins and all were colored nicely. But it sounds like you prefer the trouts, fuscos etc... so 20-25 would be a good number. The height doesn’t really help with room for the fish, but the biggest tank possible is good for volume of water and keeping parameters good.

I find 18 that mature at six inches the perfect number for a 72" tank. Just right for aggression control and ability to view SOME of the more natural behaviors of the fish.

In general more height gives you no additional fish. More depth might give you a couple of extras. It's really not about gallons.

It just all depends on experience and preferenceas. Personally i don’t think it’s enough. But as far as gallons go, the more gallons means more stable water parameters.

I wanted a wider tank but the issue is the stand can’t fit through the door. So after spending months trying to find the longest and the widest tank, I kid of staring to loss patients, also the moving company told me it’s risky if I go with the wider cause they are not confident it can get into the house. 96x23x30 is the safest and the largest one that can get it.

You could do an amazing rift tank with that size.

I done reef for a while and don’t want to do saltwater anymore. It’s was pretty and nice but the work and cost was too much. The electricity to run the high lights for the SPS, the chiller in the summer to avoid the coral from melting. Missing salt, RODI, dosing and that was only the 180. I cant imagine how much it would be for 300.

I am getting the 300 so I can have proper home for the Haps, however, I am more into Pleco now. So might get another large tank just for the plecos.

I kept a couple plecos with my haps and it worked out with no problems. I had a bristle nose and a Redfin
