75 Mbuna first time...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
?

Expect the aggression to begin in 6-12 months. What are the dimensions of the tank? Six feet or longer?

For mbuna the mantra is fill the tank to the waterline with rock. Also most don't achieve that...you would benefit from more wood or rock. I would double it, or more.

Don't save fry from this tank...you may want 5 Synodontis multipunctatus for that reason alone.

Oh I see by the subject it is a 75G. If you are stocking aggressive fish like auratus and kenyi you might consider 3 species in a 72" tank with extreme aquascaping and 1m:7f of each.

I feel like I will end up removing the atrutus shortly. The stress they cause me just in worrying about them in the future is driving me nuts. Figured the rest would be a bit of a waiting game.
As of now my Kennyi are chill compared to the OB Zebra who are so far, the dickheads of my tank. But I know maturity can and will change things.

I've since removed the atrutus, got one more female for the Kenyi and one more for the OB Zebra. Picked up a synodontis ocellifer named Mike Tyson to eat their children. Added tons of rock, sight breaks and hiding spaces.
Hopefully this is somewhat of a magic formula.

I'm gonna have to find this thread
Hey all, just got back into this after a 10 year break. First time with Mbuna or any African cichlid. I have had discus and Americans in the past, totally different ballpark for sure!
I feel as though I have made some stocking errors, I know for a fact I have. But as it stands now, there is no extreme aggression. The males have several females, all on the same diet (I guess thats a plus) Figure I'd give it time and sort them out. Anyways, here is my tank. I'll probably be asking a lot of questions soon.

Thanks man! Have to keep moving it about a little here and there. But overall haven't had any serious issues. Been keeping an eye on everyone lol. Found gluing the plants to ricks and wood has kept them safe
