Anybody knows any sellers of these cats?

Thank you.

The biggest challenges were three for me with the larnaudii (IDS is known for freak outs but they have little on larnaudii's) -
-- the arriving so stressed as if dying
-- being exceedingly timid, skittish, and incompatible with even moderately or inconsistently aggressive tank mates
-- and the long stressful periods of getting used to new tanks.

Having them in a pond should help a lot, in one part eliminating nervous pacing and rubbing sores on glass. UV is usually a good idea but it has costs associated with it. Thick floating plants will slow down the infusion of fresh oxygen into the water plus plants rob the water of DO overnight, I am not sure about surface plants though.

The most timid tank mates, or indifferent.
I have another question how well do you think they would do with a giant carp because the giant carps are my favorite species of fish and I’ll like too get some in the future.

Matteo. Tbh, Just take a breath. Don’t jump to this fish then that fish like I did. Think slowly. What fish do you for sure want, and go from their.
Okay I got to be honest I want to get a bull shark LOL.
But I do know what I’m getting my self into i’ve been planning this for about a year.

Best advice is to get your tanks situated first. Then source fish that are easier to find to start with, that can live in the space you have for life :). Good luck I like your energy. Remember a lot of catfish species can live for many decades. Don't bet on rescues or aquariums taking your fish when they are too large or unwanted. They get overloaded from the aquarium trade already and likely none will be willing to take any unless super rare and in excellent condition.

I agree with The Masked Shadow The Masked Shadow take your time. This is your first ever tanks, besides you told me you have had fish bowls with goldfish and such. Jumping into a POND and like 8 different things is not the smartest. No I’m not calling you dumb but the idea of it is silly, no offense to you but you’re not ready. My grandma has a 3 gallon glofish tank. And she absolutely loves my gulper and I teach her all about him, it doesn’t mean she’s ready to get one for herself(which she wants one?) so I told her in order for you to get on you need to work your way up. So next summer she’s getting a 10g tank for 3 corys and a female betta, with lots of plants for more responsibility and also because we both love plants. Matt, you have 0 tanks as on now and are already planning on getting a 1300 gallon pond, for big fish and for stuff that will probably take people in this hobby YEARS to get all setup and actually happy with all of it, now I believe your 14 if I remember correctly, by the time you get all setup and the fish and everything finished, you’ll probably be a senior or maybe going to college. And the idea of leaving the ponds at school, do you really want to do that? You won’t be able to see them, you won’t be able to interact. It’s like if you worked at an aquarium. And a BULLSHARK?? Dude you seriously need to rethink a lot of this. And I don’t try to be mean when I say these things. But if you like catfish and you like the old prehistoric look, why not get bichirs? Rope fish?(another kind of bichir) and maybe a like 55 for a jag catfish and a few butterfly fish and make it heavily planted? Could do lots of bichirs in a 125 and the 55 I just said and call it a day. Easy Christmas, easy life. You wanting to get all of this stuff, is gonna mess up your schoolwork and your time with family. And I get it you wanna impress your family and SO DID I, I wanted to get some insane things like 2 years ago, I look back on it and I’m like thank you God for not allowing me the CHANCE to even start it. I’m not gonna get into it because I’ll look like a fool but anyway, you need to slow down just like the masked shadow said, I’m not trying to be rude but it’s best for you. The max sized tank I have is a 75g and I’m busy all the time with it. In fact I’m getting some reptiles because they are in my opinion are much easier to care for than fish. You can take my advice or leave it but like necrocanis necrocanis said you can’t just donate them to places, becuse 99% of the time they’ll say no. And once your parents see the electric bill after a month or so, I wouldn’t count on having a 1300 gallon pond anymore?

GSC appears to be as timid a fish as it gets. Their response to any trouble is to swim away as fast and as far as they can, which doesn't work out great in an enclosure.

Glad to see our dear Sensei surfacing for a gulp of air. If I may interject, the situation in the southern FL, where we both reside, is a bit different from the picture you have in mind, a fair picture otherwise. Peers are able to maintain outdoor ponds with tropicals around our parts. Plus there is yours truly about 2 hours away from the OP's, it seems... ... not to say I'd ever encourage irresponsible fish keeping (our charter is the opposite) or, worse, that I am a problem profiteer. God forbid.

Viktor: Agreed.

Kolton: ... Matt, you have 0 tanks as on now and are already planning on getting a 1300 gallon pond, for big fish and for stuff that will probably take people in this hobby YEARS to get all setup and actually happy with all of it,
Viktor: yes and I believe Matt said it will be after graduation likely, so hence the years you mention...

Kolton: now I believe your 14 if I remember correctly, by the time you get all setup and the fish and everything finished, you’ll probably be a senior or maybe going to college. Viktor: if I got it right, the tubs / ponds won't belong to him but to the school

Kolton: And a BULLSHARK?? Dude you seriously need to rethink a lot of this.
Viktor: if I got it right, it was a joke, kind of a derision / sarcasm...

Kolton: ... I’m not gonna get into it because I’ll look like a fool
Viktor: to me this argument has never been a detriment, fortunately or not. More often than not I look like a fool as I keep reporting mistakes and blunders with my fish. My "dead fish" thread alone is quite telling of my capabilities.

Kolton: ... The max sized tank I have is a 75g and I’m busy all the time with it. In fact I’m getting some reptiles because they are in my opinion are much easier to care for than fish.
Viktor: This doesn't sound right to me. You may be doing something wrong or inefficient being so busy with one 75 gal tank but I am not a plants guy, so maybe the plants are more challenging. I ditch them then.

Kolton: You can take my advice or leave it but like necrocanis necrocanis said you can’t just donate them to places, becuse 99% of the time they’ll say no.
Viktor: See above.

Kolton: And once your parents see the electric bill after a month or so, I wouldn’t count on having a 1300 gallon pond anymore?
Viktor: at 10 cents a kilowatt n southern FL, I doubt it, unless $50 more for electric can upset the financial applecart...

I sure am glad that the internet wasn't around back in the early '80s for me to share my teenage pipe dreams with the world. This thread is comedy to me. Good luck with your project and plans Matteo. Props to the many sources of quality info and voices of reason for chiming in.
