How do you dose prime?

Now that youve made the switch to Prime... now it time to switch to Safe, lol. An even more concentrated product, and even better priced.
Safe is great but that's the one you have to be careful with in dosing small tanks. I'm pretty sure I killed my rummynose by overdosing safe in a 10g.

I used to not measure and just dump a bunch in. Now, I have a 1/32 tsp measuring spoons when I think 1/4 or 1)2 tsp used to be my smallest measuring spoon.

Note that it was an alignment of circumstances that resulted in this. My other 10g with a HOB and airstone didn't end up killing fish bit thinking back, I was close to the edge bc I remember seeing fish swimming at the water top after water changes. Now that I'm careful with dosing, the fish don't do that.

What happened with the rummynose is as follows. First I didn't have a problem for awhile bc I had an airstone, but I also never filled to top, and the cover was ok the wrong way leaving a bigger gap between cover and water.

I've told this story before, but a fish jumped out a week before (rummynose somehow jumped through this small gap that was present bc cover was on backward (the plastic at the back). I fixed the cover after that so the gap was gone and the tank was more airtight.

The night I overdosed, I filled water higher than usual as it was touching half of the cover (tank is slightly off level).

Those three things made it that I woke up and all the fish were dead. I had water change my other 10g so it wasn't something that happened with water source.

I think I was on the edge before with dosing too ..inch, but the additional factor of overfilling And fixing the cover so it was tighter pushed the oxyget deprivation to the edge.

Now, I measure a small amount that won't overdose. I also don't fill that tank high enough that water touches the top and I check on the fish several times after water change just to make sure they aren't at the top gasping for air.

Oxygen depletion is the main risk of overdosing, always good to have some sort of air exchange in the tank, or to mix the dechlor separately and circulate that water before addition to the tank.

I just put the recommended dose in right before refilling the tank. Never had an issue.
