Male or female jaguar cichlids?

I'm not an expert with jags, but the darker color, heavier black markings, and the jaw structure lead me to think the top one might be male. The females a lot of time seem to have lighter color and patterns I've noticed. I think there is a surefire way to tell by the spots on the jaw but I always forget it.

They are not big enough yet. Also if you wanted to go on current pattern they are more female than male. Males dont carry the bar pattern you see on both of these. Males will be heavily spotted thru the whole body and females not many spots and the heavier bar pattern you see on these two. They could be male or female but they are just to young to pattern at this point. When my jags were small the males would show more barring. Once they hit 5”+ the males started to show the heavy spotted bodies and lost the heavy barring pattern.

Okay thanks for the info! The lighter one is around 5" currently, the darker one around 4. I'll keep an eye out on any changes in patterns.
