Meet the baby bichir gang - all advice welcome!

I agree the endli will get large, but your laps and ornate will be equally as large if not larger. Since Im assuming they are captive bred (small size usually aren’t wild caught), your endli will probably hit 14-18 in, the laps and ornates will also be in that similar size range. Delhezi do get a bit smaller maxing out at around 12-14 in. Wonderful fish nonetheless but as others have been saying they will get large especially the endli, laps, and ornate!

Nice pickups. Provided everyone gets equal food I doubt anyone will get eaten, Dels are super chunky and will definitely get big enough to avoid being eaten.

Beautiful bichirs! Just keep an eye on the shrimp and tetra numbers, polys like to make small fish disappear (as you’ve already started to see).

Do you guys see different behaviors out of your bichir subspecies?

The Lapradei seem to be the most outgoing/fearless of the group. Don’t care much for shelter and the Endlicheri looks to have the biggest appetite. Delhezi likes his cover and Ornate seems to be a little all over the place.

Yes different Polypterus species have different behaviors.

Sameee. My ornate bichir around 8-9 inches swims all over the place and my delhelzi just hides and doesn't move much unless spooked.
