Got myself a beautiful 8.5 pound California Sheepshead and was wondering about the cost and if there are any taxidermists in the area that could make the head into a beautiful piece of art. I have the head, btw. That would be weird if I didn’t :). Anybody know any taxidermists that would do it?

edit: I want it to just be the skull, and on wood or something nice. I don’t know what it is called, so I used the word taxidermist.

why don't you try and do it youself! Its not that hard
This is not true.

You can ship a fish head, I’ve shipped whole fishes to necrocanis necrocanis , you just have to use some ice packs so it doesn’t start to thaw and get thrown out by the shipping person.

This will cost more than you think. If you go to a well known professional it will be a *lot* more than you can pay, if you go to necrocanis, it will be a lot. Get an estimate from him and see what it would cost you.

I have a thread and I do offer professional fish skull/skeletal services. You can't really do fish skulls like you would other animals unless you don't mind destroying it or having it look horrible haha. Fish skulls have hundreds of bones in them. If you'd like it to look anatomically correct i suggest going through someone with exstenssive knowledge of fish skeletal anatomy and how to properly clean the bones without damaging them.

Fish bones are much more brittle overall than other animal skulls and can warp if subjected to heat in excess of 120 f. So be careful no matter who you chose. Of course you can always shoot me a pm. I have fish heads shipped to me all the time.

People told us to smoke it, and the meat will fall off. I will probably just use the teeth and the bones around it.
Can't say I'd ever recommend that to anyone as heat drives grease into the bones and breaks down the collagen bonds that hold it together but I hope it turns out nice for you. I'm not sure I'd take that advice. Just saying lol. I've been doing this for 24 years but I do museum style displays so I'm a lil picky haha. Good luck
