Hope everyone is doing well and the fish are good.
I have a 46 gallon stand for a glass tank.
I have a 50 gallon acrylic tank i need to use.
Can I put a piece of wood on top of the 46 gallon stand to hold the 50 gallon tank?
Can I get away with the tank hanging just a little on each end?

The bottom of the acrylic tank needs to be fully supported so a solid piece of wood of proper thickness should be just fine.

What is the stand made of? Pictures may help.

Thanks buddy!
So to make this 46 bowfront stand for a 50 gallon acrylic tank I need to put a piece of wood on top of the stand thats 36"x15"?

Also if I got a 46 gallon acrylic tank would that not work because the middle is not supported?

Cut a piece of plywood the dimension of the bottom of whichever acrylic tank you will be using and place it on top of the stand. The plywood can be slightly larger than the bottom of the tank if you want.

My understanding is that acrylic tanks need to have the bottom fully supported by a solid surface.

The acrylic on the bottom of most acrylic tanks is a thinner material than that used for the sides or top. It will flex if not fully supported. I know a hobbyist who place an acrylic 125 on a stand made for a glass tank and did not support the acrylic with a flat surface just perimeter. The tank developed a distinct bow in the bottom. He eventually upgraded the stand but needed a thick piece of foam to make up the difference between the center of the tank and the edges. The tank is 30yrs ish old and still up and running. a single layer of 3/4 ply would suffice.
