Wondering what different combos of cichlids make a blood parrot. I know it is usually midas with redhead, but i see different body/head shapes within the species.

There is not set parentage for parrots, though Midas/devil crossed with redhead is the most popular. Different parrots sport different colors or head shapes likely due to their messed up genetics and simply who else is in their parentage, as male parrots are generally infertile. If bred with a redhead, Midas, or some other cichlid, it’s offspring will show resemblance. If I’m correct I believe that is where rose queens and king Kongs come from.

There's all sorts of theories on which cichlids were hybridized,i have see some red head x midas offspring, some resembled a blood parrot(but were longer bodied and didn't look very 'deformed').I believe they line bred these f1 fish to attain the stockier body, lips, mouth and colours.

Also good to know that 99%+ of the time BP's males are sterile /infertile. Female lays eggs but they won't hatch.

Unless it’s my anomaly...
At least I hope so. It’s attempted to breed with my convict twice, and there have been plenty of fertile eggs. And then they eat them...
