Hi guys,

I just bought my FH recently, I think this one is about 1 month old when I bought it home.
I'm having hard time to identified it, maybe someone could help on this
Bit blurry pic, he moves very fast

Hard to say with how small it is but I would guess either Kamfa or ZZ Red Dragon just due to the abundance of pearling. You'll just have to wait and grow it out a bit more before you'll know for certain. I would say around 3-4in would be a good number to go by. Most FH's by then are already showing some if not most of their adult traits by then.

With Kamfas they tend to have a very boxy body style and very small koks along with tons of big pearls. With ZZ Red Dragons they tend to end up with a red head/chest and big koks along with tons of tiny lil pearls, generally towards the back half of the fish. At a young age tho, the fry/juviniles can be near impossible to identify from one another.

Thanks Magnus, I will monitor him for now. Will share when he gets lil bigger too.

What Magnus said.

One small tip though, watch how much you feed. Flowerhorns eat a lot in juvenile age and get a large belly that just doesn't go away in adulthood.
True true. They are somewhat prone to getting over weight. Best thing I've found to keep a FH at a healthy weight is to just have atleast 1-2 days a week where they don't get to eat. Doing this allows them to eat up their own excess fat instead of just packing on more weight. I also know that Red Dragon's are more prone to becoming over weight then other FH's, not sure on why that is but my guess is that it has to deal with how they were line bred.

Thanks Ruturaj Ruturaj Magnus_Bane Magnus_Bane , right now, i tried to feed him on pellet diet mostly, was thinking to supplement with bloodworms, but strictly just 5 pieces of pellet each feeding 2 times a day.
That's enough to make him look bloated each time feeding.

Do you think that is good enough? or just put him on 1-2 no food days

I'd atleast do 1 day of fasting a week. Better safe then sorry. Also blood worms would be good for a treat but not as a permanent food source. Blood worms are highly addictive to fish and can cause them to refuse to eat anything else.

Hi guys, just want to give update. It's been 2 weeks now. He is growing I think in a slower rate but I guess, he is quite happy, because I can see him non-stop swimming.
He has developed a reddish color on his fins, but his body turning slightly darker.

No head Kok yet though.

Update - His growth accelerates this week and finally I could captured his clear picture. Quite satisfying to see his growth and I think for $8 he is quite great. What do you guys thing? No luck for me to ID him yet though.
