If there was common plecos on there, I’ll say those because you can buy them literally anywhere, cheap, does clean algae, but then they get too big for most tanks people buy them in and creates huge amounts of waste. I see them similar to goldfish as in greatly mistreated(put in small tanks often), but these get even bigger.

Arowanas cause everytime you call a fish store and ask if they have “any oddball predators” they say “oh we have some silver arowana in” and you just immediately know they’ll never have anything interesting in Lol

They're all great fish, lol. I think your thread would get a lot more action if you left it up to the individual to choose their own. Seen as i've started, my over rated fish choices are rays, arowanas and flowerhorns.
Not to confuse anyone, I just listed a few options. That's why I said ''Of the Selected Few'' to indict you could pick others. Thanks for making this comment, so I could clear up any confusion similar to yours.

Hello; Afraid I do not quite understand the question. The "overrated" bit being the not clear part. I like some fish types and do not care to have some others. Some because I do not have the size tanks they require. Some because of the particular water conditions they need which I cannot provide easily. How did the the fish get "rated" in the first place in my question I suppose.

Mostly decided to follow this thread to see what I can learn.

The term ''Overrated'' as used above is meaning what are some fish that receive too much attention and aren't quite what they're made out to be. Any condition or conditions can make a fish overrated such as particular water conditions, needing a massive tank, etc. An ex. could be Discus Fish. Everybody loves their personalities, colors, etc. but because of their particular need for soft, acidic water it may make it hard to suit their needs due to your personal city/town/area water. It's also very risky to try and fix the problem by drastically changing your water parameters which could have bad results, and resulting in the lost of your fish. We aren't ''rating'' fish but based on that fish's tank, water parameters needed, and possible tankmates is this fish a fairly easy-medium fish to take care of and doesn't require too much work or is this fish a great fish but the work that comes along with it is unmanageable for most unless i'm willing to devote countless hours of extra time into it. But yes in the end, you will have to technically ''judge'' the fish but not rate it technically. The whole reason I even said ''Overrated'' was because that's a term commonly used for this situation ,and the term rate in it meaning just the common approval or liking of whatever you're talking about on a certain scale. The term rate is closely related to when a person is liking something or someone they're kinda judging it based on their own factors or ''rating'' but since this term is more commonly used in Basketball, Football, and etc sports that's why it has the root word ''rate'' but this isn't what we're doing right now with living beings which are being judged off their own needs, not as we would a sports player being rated on their ability, strength, etc. I hope you understand what this thread means now, if you still don't i'm open to answering any more questions you have.

Hello; Thanks. I still do not see where this is going exactly. Sort of sounds like a vehicle to perhaps put down those who like a fish you do not happen to care for. For example I do not want to keep plecos or the big cichlids any more. I think they are just as good types of fish as any I currently am interested in having. I do not expect others to like the types of fish I happen to favor.
I guess the thing is the fish I happen to like are not superior to the fish I do not happen to like. I have always wanted to keep a tank of Discus but, as you mention, do not have the water conditions they need. So I would rate them high as being desireable fish to have, but too difficult to keep properly for me.

Definitely african cichlids. With the exception of a few such as the Emperor Cichlid and Frontosa, all African Cichlids literally look the exact same in shape but the biggest killer is that the natural decorum suggested for them looks bland as heck too
