Hey guys! new member here... Its about time I join considering how much I read on here.
Anyways, here are a few of my questions, I have two stock ponds, a 150g and a 300g. 150 is 3*5 foot while the 300 is a circle with a 6 foot diameter. I also have myself a giant gourami, I have an outdoor pond and during the summer months I enjoy purchasing small oscars among other fish and selling them at a higher price to local stores and friends. Basically me farming store credit. Anyways I came across a giant gourami, honestly looked half dead, 3 inches, severely torn up. $30 and I took her home, I fell in love with this fish and instead of selling, I have decided to keep her. She is currently 9 inches... currently in the midst of setting up the new tank but have yet to decide what filtration I would like to use.
With that out of the way, I am always going bigger with my tanks, have a 150g saltwater going, my pond is 400g (pretty small for a pond), and I am definitely going bigger. My first question, with the gourami at 9 inches, should I grow her out further in a 150? Or just jump to the 300? I would love to keep tankmates with her but do not know all that is feasible... I would like to have more monsters to go with her, I definitely enjoy starting them as babies, I believe the gourami is supposed to hit a foot by year one? I basically want to know some good fish that could go with her in the 300, or better yet a 150, that would be good for 2-3 years, as I said I will always be planning to go bigger, but I am sure everyone says that here... I would like to mention we have a relatively high demand monster fish market locally and I work at one of my stores with which we have clients with large indoor ponds and such, most large fish that are listed on facebook/craigslist get swiped up within days as well. So if things do not go as planned, I have a pretty safe backup.
Okay as for fish I would love to have...
Clown Knife
Datnoids
Any Arowana
Butterfly Peacock bass
Gar
Tiger Shovelnose
Bichir
Any other oddballs
Maybe Pacu/SD?
Was told the Aro would not do good in a circular tank... is this true? Also I am not asking for all these fish in this single setup but wondering if these would be possible? I have very easy maintenance being on a well, water changes are a breeze. Have also been prepping tons of pothos.
Any filtration recommendations? Was thinking of doing one of those custom trashcan things filled with lava rock, or just being lazy and buying a few FX6, guess the trashcan would make the pothos much easier.
All help is appreciated! And if you guys show to me that none of my ideas are feasible, I will still have a fat happy gourami in a 300 gallon haha
