Thinking about upgrading my filters tonight but will take a couple hours to get it done. Will my Piranhas be ok for that long? There are 7 of them in a 125 gallon tank....
Thanks,
Chris

Are we talking just changing the air pump or completely new filters?

Recently I changed from FX4s to AC110s. I did one at a time and kept the other running. Take seasoned bio-rings from FX4 and place into new AC110. Have the new AC110 running while I did the other FX4 AC110 swap.
I has a single big fish and kept the air going also.

Here wirh the FX4s

Now with the AC110S

You can take a pitcher or tank water every now and then to disturb the water surface
Sorry....I should’ve explained a little better. It’s the traveling to get the filter that will take the time so nobody will be here....unless my wife stays behind

Cant you just leave your noisy filter running? Or is that a different tank?
So I would be taking the noisy filter and returning it to the store in exchange fir the new one. I’ll ask my wife to stay home and break the water surface every now and again....or blow into the water through the gravel vac....lol

My tanks have gone 12+ hours with the filters off and no losses.

You going to have to keep what ever that filter uses for the bio filtration be it rings cartridge etc in the tank while you do the swap.
You are going to lose some bb in the process, but should be able to keep the cycle going and not cause a mini cycle.
