Power went out at 2am last night here in my town. I woke up this morning and there's still no power. I checked the water temp in my African 75 gallon tank and it was 68 degrees!

Still now power

Wrap tank with spare blankets etc to help retain the heat.
Get a clean cup etc and scoop up and pour the water right back in the tank unless of course you have a battery powered air pump. This is to get oxygen in the water column. You don't have to do the all the time, every now and then.

Can you boil water with gas/propane? You can add a gallon of boiling water directly to the tank away from any fish, it will immediately cool down once it goes in the tank so you won’t burn any fish. Ive done this with a 2 gallon pot of boiling water that was transferred to a bucket and then added to a 240 tank

When living in WI, I kept styrofoam panels to duct tape to back, front, bottom and sides to slow heat loss.

gas warmed water dribbled in (beside maintaining a slight bit of warmth) provides a little surface agitation to help oxygenate during outages.

In Wi I kept back bottom and small ends permanently taped on warm water tanks to save energy, and had front styro-panels always ay the ready for the frequent winter power outages

Power came back on withing 30 mins of posting this. I had already dumped in really hot water to my tanks to help warm them up. We may have issues with power though from what we're hearing

If you are expecting more power outages, I believe a trip to the home improvement store for styrofoam panels is in order.
A fixing them to tank sides and bottom provides for a much slower cool down, and having one ready cut for the front is also being proactive. I usually spray paint the in facing sides black becauseI like the look.

My electric company is implementing rotating black outs today possibly into Wednesday to help prevent mass black outs.
Basically, I should be expecting occasional power outages for 1-2 hour intervals.

First time it snowed in several years in my area and nobody was prepared.

I'm definitely going to follow this thread as I'm concerned about my oscar tank and the possibility of him getting too cold on top of him not feeling well.

We're also getting the rolling blackouts to prevent a mass blackout. I'm in central Texas
