Hi recently (20 minutes ago) Ordered a Gymnotus Anguillaris for around 85 dollars and it should be arriving in a day or two. Ive attempted to do my background research and know they only grow around 6-10 inches or so but cant find any suitable tank mate lists. I was wondering if anyone here has kept these guys and what fish you kept them with? My tank is a 125 gallon. Any help is appreciated!

I’ve kept very similar oddball knives, gymnotus sp. i’ve always kept these kind of knife fish with tetras and small catfish. No aggressive fish. They prefer a soft and acidic water. Planted tank with leaf litter will work.

Thank you! The Main fish id been lookin at is silver dollars as a nice mid swimmer and maybe some smaller gehophagus. Though if neither of these will work I could do some schools of mid sized tetra and would hopolo catfish work?

I suggest the mid size tetra group, a group of Geophagus Redhead Tapajos and the Hoplo Catfish should work. The knife may be territorial about it's resting space but if Driftwood or other Ornaments if added to the aquarium will help.

I’d go with Tom. The silver dollars can spook these kind of fish. Also might nip the knife. Geos are a lot more friendly.
