I was told today that there was such a thing as a RTC that only got 6 inches and costs hundreds of dollars. Apparently this fish breed is completely healthy and lives without any problems.

Is this actually possible. I know that there are short body fish that don’t suffer ill effects, but can a 3 foot fish actually come in 6 inches without severely damaging it and shortening its lifespa? It sounds like a lot of inbreeding and stunting to me...

Of course it is! All you have to do is put it in a blender...

On a more serious note, whatever source you got that information from is incorrect.

I believe thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter can shed more light on this. vincentwugwg vincentwugwg has some short bodies.

completley false there is a shortbody varient of red tail catfish which reach anywhere from 18-25 inches approx, but these are known to have shorter life spans as there organs are compresed as the same with most shortbody fish depending on the grade the lower the grade the less short. vincentwugwg vincentwugwg had a chunky one that went to predatory fins.

even the sb versions can get to 3ft.. smallest legit non-sb rtc I have ever heard of ... is the one that JL owned. He had it for over 4 years and it grew to 11-12 inches(not sure if he still has it), it was also one of the golden ones that Amazing fish imported some 6 years ago.
Jl?

I am pretty sure Masked Shadow found what the rumor was referring to. By the time it got to you, the info got badly distorted. A 6" baby fish for $685.

IDK of any short body fish that don’t suffer ill effects. To my mind, it is impossible.
