Or boil an egg, and after it cools to room temperature, put it in the refrigerator for a few hours. Crumble the yellow egg yolk into the tank. I've raised giant danios and rainbow fish this way until I could feed them flakes.

For dwarf cichlid and angels BBS seems to work well. The problem with flakes and powder food is a lot of frys require the food to 'move' for them to 'chase' it. But if you go with powder northfin, hiraki sell powder fry food and kenfish has golden pearl at quite a fine granularity that i know several breeders use.
