If you can go for the 3 foot wide by 6 foot long, that will be much better. Still will be small but a 5x2 is much too small. The Bass can potentially reach almost 30" long. Arowana I would sell now if I were you, easy to sell when smaller and you can't house an adult.
You say sump is too much work, but when you are trying to pack too many large fish into too small a tank, the extra water volume would help a and do a better job than canisters which are actually more work to maintain imo.
