Two very strange things have happened recently.

The first is that I thought that my two electric blue Johanni hybrids were preparing to mate. These are both the offspring of King Buttercup.

I saw them engage in the typical Cichlid mating behavior, at the time that I was doing a massive water change in the 240 g system. This however did not pan out.

The smaller of the two has taken up with Felix the Oscar and is his his constant companion. The larger of the two lives at the opposite end of the tank and in between them lives Mojo the Murderer, a very aggressive Malawi Red Zebra hybrid, who keeps everything separate.

Felix, and little Black Leeloo.

Mojo and his henchmen, the Black Mollies.

The second strange thing happened, again, right after I decided I needed to move some more fish.

Butterfish, a beautiful Malawi hybrid, was beating up on my Yellow Lab. I decided to take the Lab out to my patio tank, And bring king Buttercup, the largest of my Africans, inside to replace the Lab.

Now Buttercup and my aggressive hybrid (Butterfish) appear to be mating.

Butterfish, Blue Leeloo and Black Leeloo are all offspring of Leeloo and King Buttercup.

Cichlids...

I did not mention that when I captured Buttercup from the patio tank, I did it by just chasing him into his “house” (plastic drain pipe) and him taking it out of the water.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but I also picked up one of my Convicts, And so he is in the foyer tank now.

Mr. Chips the Convict, with Buttercup (left) and Butterfish (right) looking for food in the 75g.

Esactly my thoughts.

They’re like teenagers, they’ll hump anything and always surprise you.
Me being a teen ??

Well I think that Butterfish and Buttercup figured out that they are not compatible. Buttercup was looking very Morose, so I put him back into the patio tank.

While he was in the 75 I had moved my yellow lab to the patio tank, so there was a little anxious jousting at first.

But those two had lived together peacefully since the day I bought Buttercup. They seem to have have settled down to a normal sort of existence.

Unless I go out there in the morning and find them both shredded...

I sure hope not.
