Weird wormlike thing in my 5 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Detritus worm. Harmless, but annoying to look at. They usually appear when you feed too much and a lot gets to the bottom where they can feed. Try cutting back on feedings.

I've got to hand it to you guys, you've certainly got some identification skills going on. Half the time I can't even tell with a real pic and you've nailed it on what looks like a spiders leg!
You should look at some of the saltwater forum Coral or hitchhiker ID threads. It ranges from obvious to questioning whether these people have a life outside of identifying microorganisms in blurry pics.

Ok thank you very much I will cut down on feedings. Its just my guppies don't seem to be interested in food atm. I put food in and they just stay hiding so don't know whats going on. I need to get them back in the 10 gallon though. They acted normal there

Try soaking in garlic, that tends to help.
They are also probably nibbling on plants and algae.

What color? Could have been a detritus work, if so, no worries.
Was the guppy showing any sign of infection before death, or just the typical poor guppy genes? If yes then you may have a parasite on your hands (maybe related to the Oscar).
The guppy that died was always a little sickly so poor genes.

If they're acting out of sorts i'd just check your parameters. Detritus worms are a result of overfeeding/poor gravel maintenance, both which could lead to a downturn in water quality and a behavioural change in your fish.

And as mentioned, reduce feedings, vacuum your substrate, and all should be well.
