For nearly a year I've had to vitamin soak mealworms and other insects because Brick simply refuses to eat pellets. Krill, tilapia, starving etc got no results. Once in awhile he'll eat a couple of jumbo pellets but that's it. Right now he chows down canadian nightcrawlers and jumbo mealworms.
So after reading Os have a requirement for vitamin C I decided to switch tactics. Since "C" is water soluable, I looked into L-Ascorbic acid, which absorbs on contact with tissues and has a decent shelf life as opposed to regular ascorbic acid. So I went online and ordered some pharmaceutical grade. Lasts 2 years for potency. Its a very fine powder that dissolves quickly in water.
So I mix two capfuls in a cup of water. When Brick comes up to eat, I pour it over his big fat head and maw. He breathes/ingests it in, including any stray particles. Problem solved. Amazingly he seems to like the taste of the stuff.
Just passing this info along. Because Brick eats such a limited range of food I didn't want health issues down the line. I want to grow Brick into a goliath if possible...he's doing good in that direction so far.
This hack will also work for crushed vitamins but because they aren't all water soluable you'll have to make sure to shake the powder in their open mouth (while gulping food). Rolling it on food doesn't work because they likely won't like the taste. (But who knows you may have a weirdo O).
Right now I do this once a week.
