How big is the FH. Don’t look like there’s any type of cover or other decoration in the tank so I bet he’s happy to finally have a place where he feels safe and don’t have to worry about what’s around him. I’ve found that my flowerhorn sees its reflection in the glass ALOT so the same could be possible with yours and now he has a safe place. I say keep it in there. Is he still eating?Added a terra cotta pot a week after acquiring him. Prior to the adding the pot he would swim freely while occasionally hanging out in the upper corner of tank. Now he barely comes out at eat even to to. What to do?

Has he ate since he’s been in the pot? 3” is about the size of mine and when he was younger was so energetic and active but now he’s just lazy like me lol. Don’t remember who said it but on my thread someone said they’ve experienced the FH becoming more skittish when about 2-5” and said it’s like their puberty or something. Don’t fully remember. As long as he goes out to eat then I say it’s fine. Maybe dim lights, feed a bit less, and stop using a growing mirror for a while if you use one. He’s eating although i fed him about an hour ago and he hasn’t come out to eat. At the moment, he’s roughly 3”.

I actually ordered some decor yesterday. Waiting for it to arrive. My last flowerhorn had absolutely zero decor. Bare tank, and he was as lively as they come.Need to darken that gravel its really bright. Add floating plants, small clumps of smooth stones in piles for sight breaks. A couple of plants he/she can 'snuggle' around.

With that said, this little fella is still fairly new. Tomorrow makes only a week that I’ve had him.
What type of decor did you order? And I agree with some type of plant. Preferably fake. FH are diggers and will uproot live plants just for you to put it back and they do it again. Good looking FH suck a young age and already amazing trailing on finsI actually ordered some decor yesterday. Waiting for it to arrive. My last flowerhorn had absolutely zero decor. Might get some type of vine to string around my tank. There’s a place like 20 minutes away that has 30ft of some type of vine for like 10$.Silk vines are good because you can let them float or scrunch them up at the bottom. Big cichlids like dragging them around too for play. My Oscar let me know this evening about a vine he didn't like the placement of: I moved it four times and he pulled it down four times!
