Jack Dempsey male or female

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you can get a clear look at the genitals you might be able to say male or female based on what you see

Below was my male ebjd, he was always ready with his tube down. You can see how it’s pointed and hooks forward.

the females, this is my gold jd and not a very good pic you can see her tube is thicker and tube like pointed further back with no hook

Thank you for making a valuable contribution. I looked and yeah I see a hook pointed forward at the tip. In fact at this point I’m almost positive he’s male but I’ve got pics so would appreciate a second opinion.
And as a side note I think this may now be the most detailed thread on sexing jack dempseys on the internet.

For sure male!! I have no doubt after seeing these pics

Looks like he and the Salvini are courting, keep an eye out or you'll have some hybrid fry to deal with.

I was wondering if that’s what was going on. They’re almost always together. I ll have look into and think about how I should handle that.

You can just remove the object they lay the eggs on and dispose of said eggs. Especially easy if you give them a pot to spawn in.

Or get some dithers such as tall bodied Tetras. They will consume fry. Bottom feeders like catfish, plecos will also consume fry.

Ok nice, either of those methods are easy enough. I’m glad cause I like them together and they seem happy.
