New flowerhorn - Sarah Jane

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I should add, she ate both the rainbow sharks one night not too long after my initial post and her colors became more settled. We are probably going to move her to a 90 gallon that will fit in the same space in our living room as her current tank. The 55 she is in just seems too small or soon will be.

Update on my wife’s Flowerhorn. She’s turning into quite the beast at 8” at 9 months old. While I was never a fan of Flowerhorns I must say their interactive personalities are quite great. I’ve never had a cichlid come up to my hand or arm and give me affectionate head bumps before. My Oscar used to be out for blood! Her eating has slowed down overall but she continues to grow.

Lol it is out for blood, it just can't help that it's forehead reaches your hand 5mins before it's mouth does lol.

Definitely coming along nicely, has good finnage and pearling. Kok is a lil on the big side but atleast it's not too big. Over all tho ya guys did a good job in raising it up to this point, keep up the good work and keep us posted.

Thanks! Is there a way to control the kok size? We thought she might be male but have had a couple of breeders look at photos of her vent and is definitely female.

We will choose to interpret her actions as friendly until there is actual blood lol ?

She does this amazing dance when our cat goes by doing backflips and such. Never seen a fish do that before.

Not really, kok size is mostly genetic and there's really no method to slow it down sadly.

Yeah I had a female with a big kok at one point. Her name was Big Bertha due to her manly appearance. She never did any sort of tricks tho other then bite lol. She didn't look nearly as nice as yours does tho. This is a pic of her from when I still had her. She atleast kept her kok size more manageable.

Nice fish. I all ours Big Bertha sometimes for that same reason though my wife hated that name. ? If I can get a video of her doing her acrobatics I’ll be sure to post.

Thanks! She is trying, cleaning spots off and showing breeding behavior. I have not looked on the inside of the head where she spends a good deal of time. There may be eggs in there.

A little update on my wife’s hybrid Sarah Jane. She just turned one year old and was upgraded from her 55 to a 90 gallon. We measured her at 9” long so a decent size. The 55 was just to cramped and she is currently loving all the extra space. No plans for any other fish to put with her since she is a killer. This will be her forever home. Just needs a backdrop.

I am assuming she is full grown at this point but not sure having never kept on of these before.
