Thank you. I wasn't worried about him actually hurting me. I just don't really like snails though he may change my mind.

And the fact that a snake would have gone flying if he landed in my lap.

What you are thinking of is the bumblebee snail, Engina mendicaria, a saltwater snail that looks almost exactly like them. They have a smoother shell though.
Actually the snail I had in mind does not look like either of those photo subjects.

Turbo snail? It has those similar bumps or ridges on the shell.

Turbo snail? It has those similar bumps or ridges on the shell.
Looks like a turbo. Maybe an astrea depending on how triangular the shell is, but from this angle turbo is a good bet.

He's disappeared again but I'll see if I can't get better pic of him at some point.

I also made sure to crumble a flake a the bug bites near him so he might get some before the cats ate it all.

I wouldn’t worry about direct feedings. They scavenge.
