How big should I go?

Did you ever wonder why a fish that easily hits 4 ft in nature, hardly ever reaches its full potential in aquariums?
Could it be they are normally kept in too small spaces, where water quality quickly suffers, and they get stunted?
Nope, never wondered. I wonder what big rich, victor, Vincentwugs biggest aros were? I bet they are under 48”. Tell me their filtration isn’t up to par and the tanks are to small. 300 gallon is still a lot better then the 55 gallon it was going to end up in.

Y’all want to get back on topic now?
I agree with duanes duanes that the reason adult size isn’t seen in captivity is because these fish aren’t given the proper conditions they would see in the wild.
But just because it is going to be smaller, does that give us a right to cram it into a smaller tank? The fish has no idea it is growing smaller, and will need every inch of space that a large one needs.

I agree that they weren't 48 inches, but all were above or approx 3ft . A 3ft fish cannot live in a 6ft tank it requires a minimum of 8ft plus all those fish that are rescued are rescued for a reason which is that they were kept in a tank that was not ideal. Now as for the question of the OP.
Can such a stock live in a 300 ?
Yes..
Can they fit for life??
No.
When 8*3 or 10*4 tanks are recommended, that will be the final home for all those guys, and approx 10 yrs of age. If you don't want to keep them for life then you can cram them Into a 125.?

My cousin that have a silver aro in a 500g 8x4x2 still at 30” even its 8yrs old. Just saying cause imo any fish you put in a tank wont reach max size cause we cant copy the same water in the wild vs tank. Unless you had the fish big already and ive only seen 1 person that actually grew a silver aro to 40”.

..puSkar.. ..puSkar.. just wanna know where you get your numbers when it comes to poly keeping? Seems like you have kept them for a long time.

No I've not. But I go by the gut feeling that 15 senegals don't fit well in a 120.
I've only had an endli that I grew from 3-4" To about 12" In a 4ft 90 gallon solo.
And sorry to be rude, but I don't like the way many people out there keep polys, like for example the way it is in your profile pic. Your tank may be large but many people cram polys to such an extent that these is no floor space available on the bottom pannel.
For example.

C’mon, less than 10 gallons per bichir isn’t asking for trouble at all...just doesn’t feel right.
It’s not a clean water thing, it’s just a swimming room/territory thing.

So your saying 15 sen in a 4x2x2 dont fit well when they spend most of the time in the bottom of the tank and swim maybe a couple of minutes every hr? Also they max out 8”-9” rarely get pass 10” and they like to pile together wont work?

Wild sens are typically much larger.
Now, I think the op wants to know the tank size for his proposed stocking, not about desired poly stocking. Save it for another thread.

Im not trying to pick on anyone, just asking cause alot of ppl think of us poly keeper abuses polys cause we have alot of them and they dont understand anything about bichirs.
