Help with getting a car Phoenix and I can temporarily live in

We don't get much if any snow around here. They only salt overpasses or bridges if the snows hangs around at all. Otherwise it's gravel or your studded tires. So no rust issues really.
Leary of the reported crash for the Envoy, but can't see any damage in the pictures so makes me think it was professionally repaired. Add that to the bus ride just to get it, I think the Trailblazer will be the one.

A base model car is always easier and cheaper to repair than the luxury models.

They also typically run cooler because there’s not as much stuffed in under the hood.

I forgot about Phoenix. You sure wouldn’t want to put him inside any brand new car. There is so much outgassing of volatile chemical compounds from the plastic interior materials.

If you suspect a vehicle has been in a crash and repaired cheaply, it’s usually easier to tell by looking under the car because they don’t bother to put all the screws back in or straighten out of sight metal very carefully.

Look for tail lights and turn signals and headlights that feel perfectly solid on one side of the car but a little bit loose on the other side.

Of course check under the hood where all the fenders bolt + the radiator crossmember and you will notice buckled metal that has been straightened out and maybe even shot with paint but was obviously damaged at some point.

But a lot of times the damage is hidden by carpets and upholstery panels and other things and you can’t see it until you get the car all apart.

The thing is, if the car steers straight going down the road, and it handles correctly going around the corners, any damage repairs are probably inconsequential at this point.

You make a very good point on the base vs luxury models. Luxury having a lot more possible repairs due to all the extra load on the engine/electrical system.

It really depends most of those are pretty much the same with a difference being trim. By trim I mean interior stuff like leather vs cloth, power seats vs manual, premium sound vs a regular radio, the ss came with a 5.3 v8 instead of the 4.2 6 cyl. You may have rear heat and air on the higher level package too. Which in that case is definitely more wear and tear on the engine. But yes more gadgets more stuff to break.

Well fingers crossed that it's still there come Wednesday/Thursday. Been so long since I renewed my liscence I have to do the written/drive test. With covid and all the soonest test was August 4th.

The cost of labor goes up to do anything because you have to remove a lot more stuff to get where you’re going. That’s just the life of a luxury car or a modern sports car.

I had a cast iron V-8 Cadillac that was fairly easy to work on because there was an acre of room under the hood. It’s a good thing too, because I did a lot of work on that car in 100,000 miles. It had a thing for radiators and exhaust manifolds cracking. The catalytic converter plugged up, the freeze plugs rusted out, I rebuilt the brakes, the front suspension, the rear axle bearings.

But this is what you expect when you buy a huge shiny Cadillac for only $3000.I knew I would have to work on it but that was the price I paid for owning a 7 liter car.

Now if I had to sleep in the car, the Cadillac sedan D’Elegance was very nice. But not a camper.

Oh my god Ulu Ulu ! If you owned a 7.0 litre car in the UK you'd have to do one of two things....

1. Live in it, because you sure as hell wouldn't be able to afford to live in a house, or...

2. Keep the house, and just park the car up outside and use it as a shed!

Running a 7.0 litre car with the price of fuel over here would bankrupt you, lol.

Little story for you. The mother in law owns a house in Florida. The first time we went over I remember the first time we went to the fuel station to fill our rental car up. I was watching the gauge through the car window as she was fuelling up the car (mother in law did all the driving, no way was I driving on the right hand side of the road, lol). I thought the gauge was broke. She filled the car right up and it cost something stupid like 40 dollars. Then she told me that fuel was dead cheap in the states.

The penny dropped then why you lot drive round in those massive fuel guzzling trucks, they're absolutely all over the place. Lol.
