American cichlid fishroom tank sizes

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just spoke to my public works and they only dose chlorine. I'm so excited.

To be honest i think you should definitely go for the 125s if your goal is to keep pairs of the species you mention. A 75 , to me, would be too small for a fully grown argentea male for example, let alone a breeding pair of them. I've had 5" cichlid males kill their female in larger tanks than that. Your tanks would likely mostly need to be divided, leaving only 2' or so of swimming room for these bug guys. 8 tanks of successfully spawning pair, would be better to me me than 8 tanks of single males who killed their female. Chances are even in a 125 you may end up with a bunch of these being divided, at least a 125 will allow you room to do so. Just my .02
edit: some of the smaller species like dempsey would probably be do-able in a 75. Could do a mix, though I would go mostly 125's.

Hey there bud. Crazylegs78 Crazylegs78 any updates?

Well, it's been much slower going than I would've hoped, but that's just how it has to be. I've got a demanding job and two kids in sports, so my personal hobby time is limited.

I'm using the white hardboard sheets for interior siding. As mentioned before, this room is in my garage, so I was concerned with drywall and the high humidity. I feel like this might be a better solution. Plus I got about 10 sheets for $2 each. I just finished installing my mini-split, so the room is now 77-79 degrees all day. I was so happy for this, as getting anything done in a Houston garage, in August, is brutal!

I used FRP panels over 3/8" particle board for the area behind the sink. I figured there would likely be water treatment and valves mounted in that area. Probably some eventual leaks as well. I also installed a Hass manufacturing water valve for timed and temp controlled water changes. While it isn't my final set-up, it has made things much easier for now.

I've been exercising great restraint in just keeping my two tanks in the fishroom for now. I really want to get electrical, drains, and air loops run before I clutter the room up with more tanks.20210807_184922.jpg

But, there is light at the end of the tunnel...

As for my Festae, I'm still waiting for the only male to dominate over the big sow of the tank. They're both around 10", but she's thick like peanut butter, and he just can't beat her.

Sorry for the picture quality. I'm not a photograher and most of them were impromptu opportunity shots.
